Our story

The Afghan International Enlightened Women Forum was founded in 2018 with a strong belief in the power of education, community, and women’s leadership.

Following the political changes in Afghanistan in 2021, and the severe restrictions placed on women and girls by the Taliban, our work became more urgent than ever. As access to education, employment, and public life was dramatically reduced, Afghan women faced increasing isolation, financial hardship, and loss of opportunity. In response, we expanded our initiatives to support Afghan women in diverse and practical ways.

What We Have Done Since 2021

Since 2021, we have created and financed educational pathways that enable Afghan women to continue learning despite restrictions. Through our initiatives, we have supported courses in health, education, and skills development, financially assisted women in completing their studies, and helped many women graduate as midwives. Our work combines education, financial support, and long-term empowerment to ensure women are not left behind during times of crisis.

Why this matters?

Education is not only about knowledge, but it is also about survival, independence, and the future. By supporting Afghan women in continuing their education, especially in critical fields such as midwifery and healthcare, we contribute to stronger communities and protect women’s rights to learn, work, and lead, even in the most challenging circumstances.

  • Current Initiatives

    We are currently supporting practical skills courses for Afghan women, focusing on the creation of traditional Afghan women’s clothing. These courses aim to preserve cultural heritage while providing women with practical skills, income opportunities, and dignity. Due to the ongoing restrictions on women’s education and work, we are financially supporting participants and arranging these courses in safe and discreet ways. Our approach ensures that women can continue learning, creating, and supporting themselves despite the challenging circumstances they face.

    Through these initiatives, we remain committed to empowering Afghan women by combining cultural expression, economic support, and resilience-building, even in times of severe limitation.
